Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued our review and practice of the preterit and imperfect. I also gave her some additional vocabulary based on personal descriptions and relationships. Our next goal is to keep a better work ethic as we continue learning and not getting too off track, and to have our other conversations in Spanish. Her progress with the language is great! Sunday we focused on an oral lesson as opposed to written, which seemed to challenge her more."
"We reviewed the irregular verbs introduced in the last session. Then we did some exercises with the verbs, including a reading exercise about Spanish fashion and an exercise replacing regular verbs with irregular synonyms. I gave her a few homework assignments -- writing a paragraph about what she does on weekends, finishing some exercises, and continuing to work on flashcards."
"During this first session, this student and I went over some questions he would ask baseball players about their lives and non-baseball related topics. We ended up having a very flowing conversation about our families, colleges, TV shows, and other interests. He has a clear handle on Spanish grammar and, aside from some obscure grammar concepts, he just needs to build his confidence with speaking and vocabulary. Next session we will dive more into baseball terminology and continue to refresh his memory of basic conversation. I am confident that he will be able to interview Spanish-speaking baseball players without any problems within a few months. For now, he and I are thinking that I will work with him for another month, but after that see if he can work with a native speaker or at least someone who has lived in a Spanish speaking country for an extended period of time."
"We worked on some "building blocks" today; we practiced recognizing different questions words and making up new questions with them. We also started practicing recognizing basic verb conjugation difference with tener, estar and querer. We did review the questions that we do know. I left them with two worksheets on past vocab to practice and review. Overall they seem to be remembering more and putting things together!"
"In this session we went over the material we studied on Saturday. We worked on answering questions in complete sentences. I introduced the seasons of the year and the weather. We learned how to describe the weather through out the year, incorporating the material from last week (months of the year, days of the week). She did well with this new material, she needs to review the material for next session."
"We went over direct object pronouns in Spanish. We also went over writing prompts aimed at writing traditional paragraphs including an introduction, conclusion, and body sentences."
