Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on multiplying and dividing mixed numbers and fractions today. I gave her the choice of using one of two methods for dividing fractions, whichever she prefers. I will implement multiplication drills in our next session."
"We discussed an in-class assignment that the student had, which involved graphing different dilation's (enlargements and reductions) of a point-and-line drawing of Texas. We then started to review the chapter that she has been covering for the last couple of weeks involving proportions, unit rates, similar shapes, dilation's, etc. in preparation of her test on Tuesday. We will continue to review during our session on Sunday."
"Worked with the student on half life and doubling exponential problems. Also, we went forward and discussed compound interest to make sure she was ahead of the curve and can understand it easier for next week's lessons."
"The student started vectors in Calc, so we reviewed the material that she went over in class. I told her to go over the chapter review, and I am about to send a review sheet of the material."
"We did some review of limits and derivatives (especially chain rule) and worked on related rates. The student did really well; she only needed some reminders of specific processes and to take her time on complicated problems. She was very positive and enthusiastic. I mentioned flashcards and the value of writing things out. I feel that this was a positive first session!"
"Today we discussed the disc and washer methods of integration. We determined when to use each method and how to set up the washer method. We also practiced the washer method on 2 homework problems. Afterward, I introduced the idea behind the shell method, so that the student will have already seen it when it is discussed in class. She had no trouble remembering how to set up the integrals once she knew what the area of integration looked like. We also discussed the graded homework assignment that is due next week."
