Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed the online history crash course. The student took some notes on items that were emphasized or crossed over. I then cleared up some questions she had about "infrastructure"ù and the "Whiskey Rebellion."ù The bulk of our session was spent going through several practice tests. I pulled practice tests from online and checked the information covered to that in her notes. We then when over the test together. It was a solid session."
"The student and I covered the following in preparation for a group project: -Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 and subsequent violence of Bleeding Kansas in 1856. -Dred Scott Ruling 1857. -Lincoln Douglas debates of 1858 with an emphasis on the Freeport Doctrine. He was struggling with a deeper nuanced understanding of these topics, but he was able to adequately explain these concepts in his own words at the end of the session and was going to apply these ideas in a coherent thesis as required by the assignment and given to him as his responsibility by his group. For the next session I am planning on emailing him a copy of the unit test I used to give my students on this material prior to our meeting for him to take. Then we will go over the test in person and specifically review the topics/content for any questions he gets wrong. That way we can specifically identify the areas he needs to focus more on to do well on the test."
"The student and I covered the material in his book that he will be tested on Wednesday (Chapter 7). He is very smart, and doesn't seem to have any issues understanding the material. His teacher posted a test review online, and he agreed to complete that review on Sunday night so that he could study it over the coming days to prepare for his exam on Wednesday."
