Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her homework from our last session. She showed a solid grasp of adding and subtracting fractions. We then did an exercise with what initially appeared to be different fractions, but once they were completely reduced, it was clear they all had the same value. I had the student do this exercise so she could see how fractions can look different, yet actually be the same, i.e. have the same value. Then I introduced an exercise with money, i.e. quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, and asked the student to give me fractions of a dollar, such as 2/3, 2/5, 1/12, etc., and instructed her how to determine what each one was. The student caught on to the concept quickly. We concluded today's session with learning how to multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers, and I left several problems for the student to work on for practice."
"The student and I covered step counting, and practiced converting step counting in to multiplication tables. We did 2's, 3's, and 5's together, and will continue with all other digits up through ten in future sessions. She does well with step counting. I also quizzed her verbally on several topics from math, to see which areas she was competent in, and what needed improving. She is doing very well with the addition and subtraction standards. We will cover the standards of money, measurement, and graphs in the future. The goal is for her to begin memorizing her multiplication times tables. The student was very well focused for this session and was proud of her ability to step count."
"We had to work on test prep. We covered inequalities, algebraic expressions, areas of trapezoids, triangles, parallelograms, and adding, subtracting, and multiplying/dividing fractions. There were many problems and she did very well with them."
"We covered division. We also worked on social studies. The student had no problem with the division problems. He was able to explain his steps clearly."
"The student is doing well in his classes. He's currently doing state testing so he hasn't had any new material. We spent today's session doing review and will pick back up again on Monday and focus more heavily on the geometry topics he's beginning to cover in class."
"The student feels that he did well on his math and world geography tests, and pretty well on his science test. He had homework in all three of these subjects today. We worked on math and world geography together."
