Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on logarithm equations and inequalities. Then, we went over a section that involved solving log equations using properties of logs. The student had a good handle on most of these problems and got most correct on her own."
"Today, we had a review about evaluating expressions with integers, fractions, and powers. We also went over positive, negative, and undefined slopes. The student initially struggled a little with some algebraic expressions, but after an explanation, he understood the concepts. Tomorrow, we will practice some exercises like today's so he can master these expressions."
"Today's session was primarily devoted to reviewing for the student's test tomorrow. We went over several problems that comprised a practice test given to him by his professor. Pretty much all of the problems dealt with using various integration techniques (integration by parts, trigonometric substitution, u-substitution, completing the square, multiplying by 1, long division, partial fraction decomposition, etc.). He had prepared note cards with several of the trigonometry laws that he would need to know for his test. This showed great preparation, and his knowledge of the laws showed in the examples that we worked through."
"Tonight the student and I continued to work on math portion of the review test. She had not had any exposure to working with radicals and simplifying radical expressions and exponents, but she picked it up quickly after I explained it to her. She is having some difficulty with more basic math skills, so as we encounter those I have been taking time to work on those gaps. Next week I plan on bringing some more problems of that type for her to review and work as well as some materials that will explain the steps involved so she understands better why she is doing what she is doing."
"The student has a test tomorrow, so I had him work on the study worksheet the teacher provided. It covered linear functions (graphing), slope, interpreting distance/time graphs, intercepts, word problems, and transformations."
"The student had a dream home project that incorporated scale factor. I monitored his work and gave him direction on how to increase points based off of the rubric. All he needed to complete was to find a picture of the house online or out of a magazine."
