" I enjoy watching students overcome intimidating material once they learn the fundamentals. Having taken many tests myself, I appreciate the difficulty of preparing and managing time during a test. I show students how to proceed through test questions quickly and manage time during a test. Test prep is necessary in today's education system, and I believe it's important to help students cope and excel through these pressure situations. I always emphasize with students that their goal is not a perfect score, but rather the ability to proceed efficiently through questions without second guessing." ...

" Since undergrad I have tutored in many subjects: math, SAT prep, Spanish, and biology. Spanish is my love; I studied it as an undergraduate and believe that the key to learning anything is understanding how the subject matter fits into the larger picture of your life. If you understand WHY you need to learn something, you have an incentive to learn it. I've tutored middle school, high school, and college freshmen and sophomores and occasionally get a phone call from one of my younger sisters asking for help editing an essay or solving a math problem." ...

"I have been a volunteer tutor for college freshmen and sophomore level math classes as part of my membership in the Institute of Industrial Engineers during my years in college, and have worked in an elementary school environment where my duties as a technology coordinator occasionally required me to instruct students. For me, the biggest thrill in any job is visibly seeing that "light bulb moment" as someone crosses the boundary between confusion and understanding. Thank you for taking the time to consider me for your tutor, and I'm hoping to hear from you soon!." ...

"Prior to entering the teaching profession I volunteered at two elementary schools, where I tutored students in reading and math. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to deliver individualized instruction and connect with students in a way that just isn't possible in a large classroom. While I tutor in many subjects, math and writing are my favorites. Whether it's mastering multiplication tables or the quadratic formula, I tailor my tutoring to the student's learning style. I always begin by asking "Who are you? What do you like to do? What are your goals?" and trying out some sample problems to get an idea of the student's ...

" One of my greatest strengths in this regard is my ability to approach a problem from multiple angles. If the first approach I suggest for a problem isn't clear to a student, I can usually come up with an alternate, sometimes more intuitive way of addressing the same problem. Recreationally, I spend a significant fraction of my time developing my problem-solving skills with the Mathematica programming language. I also enjoy building small digital and analog circuits, for entertainment and study purposes.."
