Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I began this session by having the student read a short story out loud. After that, I had her choose a verb, determine the person, tense, and mode, and then convert the verb into a "vervoide". With a few exceptions, she did very well in this exercise. I also helped her with any vocabulary questions she had. We continued this exercise for most of the session, and then I asked her a few questions to have her practice her conversation skills. When she speaks she rarely pauses, as her vocabulary and grammar skills are excellent. However, from time to time, she asks for help with translating a word, and I correct a grammatical error."
"We continued studying for the student's Spanish final that he will have in a few weeks. I quizzed him on all of his vocabulary for units 1, 2, and 3, and marked the areas he should review for homework. We studied reflexive verbs, past and present tense verb conjugations, and numbers 1-1,000,000. He also finished filling out his study guide. I gave him some mini-quizzes on "hay que" vs. "tener que", "ser vs. estar", and "saber vs. cononcer" that we will work on next time."
"* The student read/translated a speech given by Oscar Arias (online), taking notes to write an essay. * She worked on a self quiz on the myths that surround Costa Rica's socio-economic atmosphere. * We worked on helping her understand the subjunctive and imperfect tenses in present and future tenses."
