Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered analytical geometry, with an introduction to unit circles and four quadrants of trigonometry."
"First session with the student. Worked through some review of basic geometric concepts, such as area and surface area calculations."
"We reviewed items coming up on the next test. Mainly volumes and surface areas of prisms, cylinders, cones, and pyramids."
"In terms of concepts and shapes, the student is doing basically the same sort of things as last time, except it's more numerically complex and involves ratios and proportions. The former he is solid at, but the latter needed work. I made him use proportions in some of the problems, even if they didn't necessarily need them, just so he'd have the practice. And then we talked about how one could represent a ratio like 5:7 with 5x and 7x, with x as a variable scale factor (which allows for similar shapes)."
"Worked on special triangles and their theorems. These included 90-45-45 degree triangles and 90-60-30 degree triangles. Theorems included the relationships between the hypotenuse and the legs of these triangles. The student demonstrated good understanding of the theorems and was able to apply them to solve given problems."
"The student's test is on 2/9. I'm going to create mock tests that play a bit to his strengths. If we can get over half the test to be "easy" for him, then some alternative strategies for other question types should be able to get him over the hump."
