Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by looking at several questions from the Final Exam study guide. The student decided she needed to review the components from Exam 2 on her own this evening, so we then moved on to the components from Exams 3 and 4. We covered topics related to DNA transcription and translation, DNA replication, gene expression and regulation, and the regulation of the lactose and glucose pathways in E. coli and yeast, respectively. We next covered topics on the study guide for the metagenomics and microbiome lectures. We spent the majority of time on the study guide concepts, including the difference between targeted metagenomics and shotgun metagenomics and the gut microbiome. The latter concept dealt with numerous topics, including anaerobic fermentation, the production of vitamins B12 and K, nutrient absorption and the digestion of short chain fatty acids, the relative densities of Firmicutes versus Bacteroidetes colonies, the production of leptin, and the large study of ob/ob mice and its relevance to obesity."
"Reviewed for upcoming Biology quiz on taxonomy related to the characteristics of each kingdom. Also reviewed the Biology High School Assessment test packet. Session went well."
"In this session, we reviewed the material we had covered previously about population genetics, ecosystems, and other things relating to natural selection. The student understands the material very well and is getting prepared for his test."
