Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on science and math. She did very well and made very few errors. She improved dramatically by the end of the session."
"For our last session, the student and I and I tried to cover as much as possible: reading, science, and a little bit of math. We came up with a new, final method to get him through the reading section faster: 1) Read all the questions first, to familiarize. 2) Read the passage. 3) Answer the questions, but try not to go back to the passage. This strategy resulted in him finishing sections on time (8.5min) with remarkably high accuracy! We also agreed that he should tackle the reading passages in order of easiest to hardest (for him): social science, natural science, humanities, and then fiction. On the science section, we found out that he's very good at answering the data-type questions, but was nervous about the multiple-experiment-type questions, and was too slow on the warring-scientists questions. So we came up with the following strategy: 1) Answer the basic data passages first, by going straight to the questions. 2) Answer the multiple-experiment passages next, by first identifying the manipulated variables, and then going to the questions. 3) Answer the warring scientist passages last using the reading strategy: read the questions first, then read the passage, then answer the questions. (Additionally, try and simplify the wording of all the questions.) I am excited for the student as he goes into his test on Saturday!"
"We worked through reading and math questions together before the student's test this weekend. I gave him some general reading strategies."
