Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student asked me ahead of time if a friend could join us during this session and I agreed. During the session we discussed the topic of conversation that I had left her for homework. After that I dictated a paragraph of a speech in English while she and her friend wrote it down. This exercise allowed me to see how well and how quickly she can translate. She did very well, with some minor grammatical and spelling mistakes. I then told her that I would text her the next short story that we will read for the next session."
"We reviewed the alphabet, numbers, and basic phonics. Our warm up consisted of writing vocabulary words by sounding them out. The student did very well during this exercise. We spent the bulk of our time working on a reading comprehension passage, answering questions in Spanish, and holding a basic conversation that covered the information. The student is able to retain new information and recall prior knowledge quickly. Her homework consists of a few review sheets on numbers, reviewing the text we practiced, and studying her "food" vocabulary list."
"Reviewed verbs for his Spanish test tomorrow. He knew almost everything so he should do well on the test. He also received his grade from his math test from last week. He seems to be really understanding the concepts I am teaching him in our lessons. I am noticing his hard work and he is improving."
"The student and I listened to the video we watched last week to see how his comprehension is going and then began to watch the second video I had sent. We made it only through half of the video since we stop and write all the words down and talk about their meanings and other aspects. We will continue with that video next week."
"In this session we did a review on Chapter 3 and worked on a few exercises. We went over the vocabulary for this chapter, and practiced a little grammar. The vocabulary was on the family, relatives, and the house. The grammar was on the verb "to have", and possessive adjectives. After we practiced a couple of exercises, we moved onto a reading on "domesticated animals", and "exotic animals" in Latin America and Spain. After the reading, we worked on a few reading comprehension questions. The last thing we did was to introduce the new chapter. Chapter 4 is about the classroom. We went over a few vocabulary words, and introduced new verbs that end in -ar. His homework is to study the new vocabulary. He did a great job in this session. I'm very pleased with his progress."
"We reviewed everything we had been over previously, just to reiterate the information so that it was not forgotten about. Mostly this entailed talking about what he was comfortable with, and practicing what he was not. We also went over a lot of basic vocabulary, for the most part having to do with greetings and introductions. There was also basic anatomical vocabulary because it was relevant to his work. I also showed him some very basic dialogue models, so he could see how a "normal" conversation would go. We did a lot of pronunciation practice and I think this is something we will continue to work on."
