Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's recent work involving ellipses. We worked on how to graph ellipses relations based on their equations, and determined how to piece together equations based on foci and vertices. Overall, the student seemed to have a good grasp of the material."
"The student and I went over the first week of material for the new quarter. It mainly involved difference quotients and rates of change, as well as a little bit of review of trig."
"The student had some physics related word problems to work on. She was very comfortable and knowledgeable about units and switching between them. After three or so problems she had the procedure down. She also had some trig review that she felt very comfortable with, which is good, as the next topic requires a solid foundation in the basics of trig."
"The student had been struggling with two topics recently: SSA (ambiguous case) triangle problems, and bearing problems. I showed her procedures for handling each type of problem, including a way to organize her information so that she wouldn't lose track of anything. Her teacher also wanted her to solve certain bearing problems by using alternate interior angles, so I clarified for her how to do that. She seemed to understand everything well afterward."
"The student and I worked on converting polar to rectangular coordinates and vice versa. We went through two homework assignments. He missed a lesson last week so we went over that lesson as well. Most of this was review of what he did before winter break; there were only a few new concepts."
"We reviewed how to graph trigonometric functions, discussing amplitude, phase shifts, period shifts and vertical shifts. We also discussed trigonometric identities using the sum and difference formulas. The student has a good understanding of the material, but she wanted someone to go over the concepts more thoroughly. Once we discussed the material, we went over her homework. Overall, she felt very comfortable with the material after our session."
