Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Revised 4 essay questions from a recent assignment pertaining to "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury. Worked on formulating answers to essay-type questions and developing ideas for rhetorical writing."
"Being that today was the first session with this student we just got to know each other and his expectations of our sessions together. He read from two books of his choice and he wrote his reflections. We discussed the correct language usages both in speaking and writing English. In out next session I will be giving him an assessment to further guide the curriculum I will be using for him."
"We went over the subject/verb agreement worksheet that I gave as homework last week. It turned out to be very tricky, so it was a good opportunity to discuss "either/or" and "neither/nor" as well as volume words ("gallons") and words that are both singular and plural ("sheep," "buffalo," etc.) The students filled out a language inventory for me, so that I can get a clearer idea of how they think of language to help me plan for future sessions. We also did two timed emails, one informal (to auntie Mildred), and one business-related. Both were completed in ten minutes, and then we went over them."
"The student and I covered vocabulary words and sentence structure on yesterday. He is now reading the Odyssey and had to create sentences with the vocabulary words. Working with him yesterday went pretty well and I look forward to meeting him again next week. Excited about his Biology test on Friday, and I'm also excited that he got 100% on his Biology quiz on yesterday:)"
"Today the student and I met and reviewed Antigone (a play by Sophocles). His teacher gave him an assignment to complete Antigone review questions for his upcoming English test on Friday."
"The student and I covered several grammar sections from her review book, with a focus on verb, noun, and pronoun agreement. We also went over other miscellaneous grammar rules that are tested on the SAT. She wrote an essay from a prompt which we will review together in tomorrow's session. She also has a grammar exercise from the practice test book."
