Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I asked the boys to give me five words in Spanish. When they did, I made out an index card with the word on one side and a drawing on the other. We then made another card with just the word. Later, we made another card with just the word and played it differently. Finally, we read the book A Snowy Day in Spanish."
"We covered animals - farm, wild, and domestic animals. Read a story describing a day in the life of a pig. We also watch a video about farm animals. The assignment is for both students to watch El Mundo de Elmo 'Mascotas'."
"Today, we met at a local history museum. I primarily spoke to both children in Spanish, and we reviewed many new words. I believe that the museums provided a very stimulating environment for children. I will bring some books in Spanish to read to them next week."
"We went over other uses of por and para, particularly using para for a recipient or a destination and using por to express motivation. The student's grades on the drill were a little lower than ones she has done previously. Further explanation is needed and practice will be given as part of her homework."
"I worked with the student for a one-on-one session. I introduced her to the two pronouns for you and I (ta? and yo), along with learning more about shapes in Spanish. I then had her practice constructing sentences, using new vocabulary and colors (ex. The roses are red - Las rosas son rojas), signaling to her the importance of gender and singular/plural agreement between a noun and adjective. She did a great job, and I plan to have both kids practice more with constructing sentences throughout the following sessions."
"The student and I had another great session today. We focused on adverbs, adjectives, gerunds, and participles for a portion of our time. Then we moved on to conversation. He is learning a lot, and gaining more understanding every time we work together."
