Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we read aloud the draft of his space essay, and it was great; he made all the edits we talked about last week. Then we worked on commas, semi-colons and colons, and some proofreading. We finished a worksheet I made for last week, answering simple questions from an informative paragraph using full and complete sentences with a clear subject. For next week, his assignment is outlining a step-by-step essay about making origami."
"The students are jumping up in scores! Reading and Science are going very well for the both of them. We covered a section from each part of the test, and I asked them to do at least two practice tests before next Thursday, when we will do our last chance questions."
"We practiced all types of writing multiple choice questions, including the section where you edit an essay. We also practiced math free-response questions, identifying which ones to omit and strategies for translating the words into math terms."
"We went over the student's schedule of assignments and labs that she didn't perform very well on and created a plan to make up the work. She is allowed to retake any tests and make up any assignments. We got through three labs today, and in the future I think we will be able to get through about three assignments or labs a session. "
"Worked through roughly 15 minutes of each section on the exam. Looks like we will need to work on the "usage" (punctuation, capitalization, grammar) section of the Language test, and some math and reading review would be good as well. Overall, though, the main goal will be to help the tutee become more comfortable with standardized testing and the exam question types and formats."
