Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the first part of the session going over mathematics, focusing on problems that pertain to squares, triangles, and rectangles. I continued to stress test taking techniques relevant to problems with geometry, including using properties of polygons to infer other information relevant to the solution of a problem. In addition, we went over reading passages from the practice tests that we've been working on. I emphasized reading strategies such as mentally summarizing each paragraph before moving to the next in order to more readily identify the main idea. I also discussed the three main purposes of writing and how these could be used to answer questions based on making inferences. I also recommended that the student go over his current math homework."
"Because the student's exam is approaching, we are going over every section on the placement test, focusing on math and verbal. Her language skills are very good. We will work more on probability questions and basic algebra."
"The student is fantastic and working with her has been among the most enjoyable experiences that I have had tutoring. I set her on another diagnostic test while I worked with her sister. She scored in the 85th percentile on the verbal section and finished a full ten minutes under the normal time. Her speed in finishing these sections is like nothing I have ever seen. I think it is the mark of a confident test taker. Since timing won't be an issue for her, I encouraged her to take just that extra second to make sure that she is positive on the answer she is giving. We talked about that strategy a bit, as well as that she should spend the rest of the time on the test meticulously checking her answers. We finished the math section as well. She told me that she actually used one of the concepts that we had worked on in the prior session to get the right answer on an extra credit question in her math class."
