Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I started by reviewing strategies for the verbal section. He took a little time to recall the steps to go through on the sentence completion portion, but once he recalled the steps, he did an excellent job on some practice questions. He knows when to guess and should focus on moving quickly through his steps. He showed improvement on the synonym portion of the section as well. On a recent practice test, he said he had few problems on reading, math, and quantitative. We briefly went over strategies for each. We finished by reviewing prewriting strategies and practicing generating evidence and main ideas. He should complete some practice writing passages over the next week to get comfortable with the process and the time limit."
"I went through the format of the test with the student and made sure she understood what she should expect from the ISEE. We went through each subject of the test and she did the guidebook's sample questions. With each one, I helped her understand the techniques for arriving at the correct answer. We also spent some time working on the essay portion of the ISEE. She is doing really well with the concepts, so I just want to help her understand the questions and answer them more quickly so that she doesn't run out of time. The game plan from this point is to have one more session of working sample questions, then next week I will actual proctor a practice test for her. The final session before she takes her test, we can go over what she missed on her practice ISEE and review any concepts she is struggling with."
"First we reviewed words from the previous session and then she did a synonyms practice test. Then we did some Math review and then she wrote an essay for practice."
