"Went over his quiz he took last week and the problems that he got wrong, as well as how to fix them. Student also did math homework and some more practice problems."
"Tonight the student and I covered her newest chapter which deals with viruses. We spent time discussing the different ways viruses infect cells, different forms of viruses, the two "life cycles" of viruses, and the important processes involved in the viral hijacking of cells. She walked me through her notes, which we then discussed in detail and I had her explain them in her own words (which she did really well with). The whole concept of viruses is tricky, and although she didn't have a complete understanding when we first started talking, she quickly picked up on every concept we discussed, and I was reassured the multiple times I had her explain the concepts back to me in her own words. I left her with some practice regarding reviewing the lytic and lysogenic cycles, as well as why HIV is different than most viruses, and why it is a "retrovirus." She did a great job as always. I'm incredibly impressed at how quickly she picks up on these concepts. Many of the pre-health college freshmen that I worked with did not pick up these difficult subjects as quickly as she has been able to."
"The student and I worked on her upcoming quiz on Worms, Sponges and Cnidarians and I'm confident that she will do well. Later, we worked on SAT Prep in the form of vocabulary words."
