Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered some basic German concepts, such as pronunciation, the alphabet, and some vocabulary. We covered some very basic sentences and reviewed the structure of very simple sentences. The student seemed to pick up what was being taught very quickly. I left her with some worksheets to look at, including a list of numbers and vocabulary. She seemed very eager to learn, and I am confident that she will pick up the language quickly."
"The student had done her homework in class this week, so we checked that together to start our session. Her homework in the workbook was on using 'dass' properly in a sentence. She did really well and only had a few minor errors. The rest of the session we spent studying for an upcoming test next week. She has a really good understanding of the grammar concepts, but was still struggling with the vocabulary for this unit. We spent a lot of time working with her flashcards and talking about memorization techniques. By the end of the lesson, she had all of the flashcards memorized both from German to English and vice versa! I can't wait to hear about her upcoming test, I'm sure she is going to do great."
"It was great seeing the student and working with him again. We used material I have that are very practical in conversation manner. We covered several lessons from the material, including new grammar, a lot of new Kanji, and a way of counting numbers in Japanese."
"Reviewed the kanji learned last week. Gave a few reference pages with charts for counting minutes and numbers above 100. Did speaking practice by describing a chart in the book (age, occupation, college name, etc.). Reading practice. I read and the student repeated to help put a sound to the letters on the page. Learned words for ordering food from a menu. Introduced new shorter, casual verb forms. Learned new kanji and short explanation of Japanese and Chinese readings. The student was doing very well following my explanations."
"We covered location words like left, right, below, above, etc. We also went over hard vocab words that harder for the student to memorize. She was very comfortable with the things we reviewed. Her pronunciation and reading skills have improved immensely. I gave her new vocab words and asked her to use the location words in a sentence."
"The student worked on a homework assignment that dealt with passive and potential verb form, which included translation as well as verb conjugation. He needed help with the passive and potential verb form because it seems that his professor hadn't covered it in class. I explained the concept to him and he picked it up easily."
