Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student wanted clarification on the problems she got wrong on last week's test on graphing quadratic functions. She is interested in doing well and retains what is taught. We also worked through SAT practice math problems. I will bring practice problems to the next session."
"We reviewed material for the student's next quiz, which will cover functions and their graphs. We also looked at her previous quiz, and I went over with her the questions she missed, including some that dealt with solving quadratic inequalities. After this next quiz, I plan to see if we can identify problem areas and dedicate 30 minutes of our session to improving basic skills such as answer-checking and arithmetic."
"The pupil and I went over proportions and her homework assignment, corrected problems from her last unit test (rate problems), and created a plan for future sessions. The student is doing well overall. If she makes sure she reads each question carefully and answers exactly what is being asked, her grade will continue to improve."
"The student is studying the law of cosines in his math class and we spent most of the session working through a homework assignment. We discussed the formula needed and the different ways to arrange the formula depending on what you need to solve for. The student worked through all the problems on his assignment while I watched and checked his work as well as offering occasional advice. He realized that these are not hard problems but will need care and attention to detail to solve correctly. At the end of the session we discussed the topics we will probably cover on Thursday. We will try to focus on chemistry and I will bring molarity worksheets."
"Today, the student had a review for her upcoming test over rational functions. Since our last session, she had many of her questions over setting up rational functions and work equations answered, but the concepts had been applied differently in her word problems on the review. We discussed the similarity in the steps necessary to set up each word problem, then I had her work extras from her textbook to make sure she was comfortable with it. She showed very minor apprehension with the problems, and after practice was able to complete them without question. I was notified later in the week that she had earned a 100 on the corresponding test."
"We reviewed the student's homework on data tables and chart types. We covered pie charts, bar charts, line graphs, and tally charts."
