Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed adding and subtracting two and three fractions. I also continued to teach him how to multiply fractions and mixed numbers. I gave him many practice problems on that. He is getting the hang of the problems and picks up new material quickly."
"Lovely session with the student. He is working on hyperbolas in class. Helped him work on different approaches to the problem. Really working to make sure that he reads all directions on his homework and shows all of his work."
"We continued to cover conic sections: hyperbolas, ellipses, circles, and parabolas. We also focused on the finding the major and minor axes, vertices, and focuses of these functions. The student was struggling with hardly any of it he had a great grasp on the material and a positive attitude. I did include some strategies on finding the standard form of some of the sections. I asked him to look through the chapter review. No grades and I have no concerns."
"The student did her homework assignments on confidence intervals, z-scores, and sampling distributions. She did very well with confidence intervals, and I think the only reason she did not do well at first was due to rounding errors and small computation issues. She should also remember that for questions where there is no preliminary estimate, p=0.50. She struggled a bit more with sampling distributions, so she should remember that when we are looking at a sampling distribution rather than a population, standard deviation becomes standard error, which is sigma/sqrt(n). We will keep working on this in the future."
"We covered how to express a distribution function, conditional densities, and joint density functions. The student was working to get through the study guide for the test. I encourage the student to look for other resources when he doesn't have enough reference material."
"A very productive, all-encompassing session of review for the AP test. We covered chi-squared goodness of fit, independence, homogeneity, t-tests, and z-tests, and the student seemed to have a good grasp on it all, and she wasn't afraid to ask for help when something was a little more confusing. Still, math clearly comes very naturally for her, and I'm very optimistic about her for the AP test! Also just a very fun session/family!"
