Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on the students homework and quiz review on logarithms. For most of the sections, once he saw one problem, he could relate the procedures to similar problems. He struggled a bit converting from log to exponential, and visa versa, but seemed comfortable by the end. Even though I was just subbing, I enjoyed working with him and am happy to help him with any future tutoring needs."
"Worked with the student on the law of cosines. He got a B on his last quiz due to technicalities, not understanding of math. I encouraged him to take the attention to details. Lesson learned and he's off to a great start on the new material."
"Worked through a SSAT practice test with the student in order to see what his main challenges were. I left him a reading assignment and some practice analogies. Most of what he needs to do is practice analogies and reading comprehension. Next week I will work through the math portion with him."
"We worked on writing skills today and went over personal narratives and what is involved in writing one. We looked over a short story that was a personal narrative and we also did some reading comprehension. I left her an assignment to write a letter to a friend that includes feelings and we also went over vocabulary for the week. I will give her a small quiz on the words next week."
"Today, the student and I went over three sections of her SAT practice test. We talked about plugging in the answers when lost, the idea that "half wrong is all wrong" when it comes to 2 word vocabulary questions, and about the importance of summarizing the long passages. I was very impressed with how well the student maintained her focus."
" -Reviewed Practice Test and essay on p. 81 -Math practice p. 299 -Test day prep list -Reviewed vocab HW: - Score Practice Test - Math section 2 #15-25 pp. 303-305, correct answers - Prepare vocab list for review Thurs at 4:15p"
"We went over last minute topics for both his math test, continuing with electric charges, fields, and potential in physics. We went over every question of his review sheet, making sure that comprehension and understanding were there for each topic. In math, we covered how to solve high-degree polynomials using synthetic division and factoring."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed for his upcoming test. We spent a significant amount of time going over material that was covered in a few of his recent classes. We talked about how financial statements affect each other, as well as worked through some asset calculation problems."
"The student worked on her homework on graphing variations on the parent function 1/x. She practiced writing up formulas for graphs given restrictions on domain and range (which would indicate asymptotes and holes). She mostly practiced translation and reflections of the parent function."
"Today we covered thermodynamics and examined mostly cycles and pv diagrams. We also reviewed some nuclear and modern physics. Tomorrow we will review electrodynamics with primary focus being on magnetism."
"We finished our practice test; the student got an 1810. He is hoping to get that score on the real test in order to get into the university of his choice. He is doing well, with a positive attitude and a willingness to apply himself. Maybe we can raise his score some more. He is to go over the test again for practice for our next session."
"The student and I continued working quizzes in prep for her exam tomorrow. Today, we worked on mean and standard deviation of discrete probability distributions and how to interpret them. Additionally, we broke down the mechanics of the binomial formula."
