Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The students been out of town for several days so we met today to do a little bit of catch up for what he's missed in class while he was away. He needs to do assignments from chapters 10 and 11, which are statistical inference and inference with populations. We largely worked on general statistical inference and associated concepts and covered most of the assigned problems from chapter 10. We'll also be meeting tomorrow to finish up the missing work for chapter 11. He's in good shape so far."
"In preparation for the math portion of the exam tomorrow, I asked the student to identify three areas that he would like to review tonight. He chose: double-digit long division, mixed fractions and simplification. We spent our time online tonight conducting this review. He was positive and attentive."
"We reviewed the student's first homework assignment. The assignment primarily covered issues related to sampling, and how to calculate relative frequencies and the cumulative relative frequency. The session went well. She struggled a bit with some of the concepts early on but she appeared to be clear on how to perform most of the calculations by the end of the session. She also had some trouble with how to define and identify the independent and dependent variable. Similar to the calculations she appeared to have a good understanding of how to define these by the end of the session."
"The student had completed his review packet for class, so we spent our time going over specific questions the student had or topics that he wanted to review a bit more by doing a couple more practice problems. During this session, other than pointing out that he had not carried a negative all the way through when solving a problem, the student was doing very well. He is more confident about the material he has been covering in math class."
"The student and I previewed his next unit. We went over circles and ellipses. This included the standard form of circles and ellipses, major axis, minor axis, foci, vertices, and co-vertices, center and radii. He has been doing very well."
"Yesterday, we covered solving systems of equations with three variables by using matrices and graphing systems of inequalities. The student started the exam on this section and will finish is by our next session on Wednesday. He is doing an excellent job with the material and really seems to be understanding what he's doing. It can be challenging to get him to do the same kind of problems repeatedly but he does notice that he gets faster at them each time and this can help encourage him to continue. His overall grade continues to increase as we move through the second semester of material."
