Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Because this was the student's last session before her exam, we spent it reviewing general test-day tips as well as section-specific strategies for critical reading, writing, and math. We reviewed the improving paragraphs subsection of the writing section a little more closely than the other subsections. The student seemed increasingly confident about the critical reading section. She has made amazing progress in many areas, and I'm very proud of the work she's put in."
"In this session the student and I first reviewed the homework he had done since we last met. He practiced converting between percentages, decimals, and fractions, and I noticed that while he could produce a decimal given a fraction fairly easily, and then a percentage from that decimal, he was not able to produce fractions given a decimal. To address this, we practiced several examples of increasing difficulty after I walked him through the process. He improved. He continued to show improvement in choosing the correct word to fill in blanks in a sentence, though his vocabulary needs a bit of work. In order to help remedy this, he will record each word he doesn't know the meaning of in the notes of his phone. After our sessions, he will copy these words from his phone onto virtual flashcards with the definition of the word on the other side of the virtual flashcard. Several times a week he will practice these flashcards, helping him slowly build his vocabulary over time."
"We began going through data analysis, and reviewing mean, median, and mode questions. We then looked at ways these concepts could be tested that might be more difficult. Afterwards, we started going over probability questions which she did very well on. I am going to send her more probability to review."
