Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With the student, we went over several verbal passages from the prep book. Overall, the student's performance this session was a little weaker than our previous session, and she did have problems extracting the main topics from the passages. It is possible that due to the nature of the passages, which were more abstract, gave the student a bit of a harder time. I believe she will need to practice more with these kind of philosophy/social science passages prior to her exam tomorrow."
"The student and I reviewed verbal reasoning strategies from our last meeting. Then we discussed scope, style, time management, strategy for tackling difficult passages, and we discussed a physics problem and compared it to a verbal reasoning section question. We analyzed newspaper categories and how you could classify the different structures and styles in a newspaper and how this same skill set can be applied to verbal reasoning passages. I answered several hypothetical scenarios that the student came up with and we rehearsed what he would do in such scenarios."
"Today, the student and I continued our work on her MCAT. We reviewed 6 of the passages that I provided her for homework as well as discussed testing strategies to attack and better understand the passage based questions. We reviewed the concepts of lipolysis, gluconeogenesis, Krebs cycle intermediates, plasmids, and experimental techniques for biochemistry. In the general chemistry passages, we reviewed displacement reactions, reactivity series, electron affinity, electrochemistry, galvanic cells, redox reactions, and complexes."
