Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student took a practice test. It was 2 1/2 hours long, and he said that in general, he felt he did a better job on this test than on the last test he took. He seemed more focused, so I expect his scores to be more consistent this time."
"We started right where we left off last time hopping right into the Reading section, which as of our last session was still his lowest scoring section. As far as practice tests go we worked through 2 reading tests and 2 math tests. I would like the student to do some more work on his vocab cards before we dedicate any more time to the Verbal section. As an extra assignment I asked him to study 20 words a day from his flashcards as well as 1 diagnostic practice exam over the week."
"Today we spent the majority of the session doing word problems similar to those that would appear on the math section on the test. I went over appropriate strategies for approaching word problems in general, as well as specific strategies for word problems related to sales tax, interest, and age. Many of these word problems required using concepts studied in previous sessions, such as decimals and percentages. I left some review problems for the material covered in previous sessions as well. I also introduced different types of verbal questions such as placing sentences in paragraphs and deciding which sentences do not belong in paragraphs. In addition, I explained to the parent how to access additional practice questions online . I have asked her to have the students review the list of topics for math in their Test Prep book and indicate which they feel they most need to work on in order to guide planning for future sessions."
