Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on homework that covered converting degrees to radians, radians to degrees, finding the remaining trigonometric identities given one of the values and or the information about the quadrant it is in. We also reviewed the unit circle, reference angles, and in which quadrants the trig functions are positive and which they are negative."
"Did more work with partial derivatives. This time it was finding critical points- maximums, minimums, and saddle points- using double partial derivative methods. The student did a very good job with this material. He really understands the concepts. The student is still having some trouble making little mistakes, but it also seems like he is catching himself more often which is definitely an improvement."
"Today we spent the whole session focusing on triangles. We started with some more simple concepts like finding the missing angles when 2 were given. When then threw in some variables. We also practiced finding interior and exterior angles and some more complex triangles with equations for 2 angles. She did really well over all and says she enjoys the triangles. She has a bit of trouble remembering some of the rules but we will keep practicing!"
"We covered series convergence and divergence. The student had trouble with the concepts we covered. This is to be expected as most people have trouble with series when they first encounter them. I gave the student some practice problems which helped with her understanding of series."
"The student and I reviewed local linear approximations, critical points, relative extrema, inflection points, and asymptotes. She is improving. Concepts/ framework/ algorithms are more solidly understood. Independent practice with homework problems is the next step to perfect details and score well on test."
"The student and I met for the first time and we discussed her situation with her calculus class. She has a final exam on Wednesday of next week and we plan to meet every day until the exam to review the course. She is very motivated and has a good understanding of most of her calculus coursework. She feels that she needs help on specific problems, but mostly she wants to review the course from beginning to end to make sure that she is ready for all of the topics that will be covered on the exam."
