"We reviewed for the student's upcoming test. We looked at chapters 8-10 and discussed mitosis, meiosis, and Mendelian genetics."
"For this session the student wanted to go over an old test on cell cycle. We reviewed chromosome segregation, meiosis, alleles and traits, genes/loci, and how to use chi square for calculations. We also talked about some cell biology including urea excretion and the concept of ammonia vs urea toxicity/concentration by the kidney. Next time we will go over hypotonic/hypertonic solutions and how that relates to blood as well as kidney vs liver function."
"The student received a PowerPoint presentation on microbiology lab techniques, gram staining, gram negative and positive bacteria, types staining, and diseases caused by certain bacteria. He reviewed antigen vs antibodies vs antitoxins. He was provided with PowerPoint slides and notes. He felt that our session was very helpful."
"Today, we finished the rest of the student's biology study guide packet (focused on ecology and the human reproductive system). I also tested him on some of the other topics we had covered over the course of the month (such as DNA replication, mutations, etc.), and he seemed to know the material."
"We began the introduction to the endocrine system, including chemistry of different hormone groups, mechanisms of hormone action (steroids vs nonsteroids), location of major endocrine glands and their major functions/secretions, relationship of hypothalamus & pituitary glands, and reproductive hormones"
