Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session, we continued to work on graphing coordinates. We attempted some simplifying equations with one variable. We looked at the vocabulary the student has been studying. She has been gaining about 4-5 words per week with her flashcards. We looked at some passages on a review site that discussed authorial purpose. She was able to narrow down the choices on these and correctly answered the passages. Lastly, she practiced writing out an outline and introduction for an opinion piece. She was open to looking at this and breaking it down point by point."
"In this session, the student and I practiced the proportions and percentages problems we had worked on last time. We also moved on to do some perimeter problems, and some area problems, which were new to him. We talked about area of a triangle and area of a rectangle. We also did more work with fractions, and practiced converting decimals into percents, as well as multiplying fractions, which was also new to him. Moving forward, he and I will work more on making sure that he feels comfortable with the concepts on the test that he has already learned about in math class."
"Since today was the first session, we did a little bit of each topic. The student did a great job on all of the sections. We started to talk about strategies for each section, like elimination in the math section and where to find clues to different types of questions in the reading section. We'll continue to work on these strategies next time."
