Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's class has started a new chapter. He has not yet gotten his test back from the last chapter. The new chapter is on Trigonometric Properties. We went over the first two section (5-1 and 5-2). He now has a clear idea of how to approach all the homework as we went over every type of problem presented in his book (except word problems which were not assigned). In future sessions, I would like to spend more time actually working through the problems on paper. He did some of the written work this session, but there was also a lot of verbal explanation."
"Reviewed for final exam. Binomial theorem, vertical and horizontal asymptote, rational roots test, conjugate root theorem, and conic sections."
"Today, we mainly covered all the questions on review which included trigonometry, conic sections, triangles, and some algebraic material."
"The student and I focused on exponential and logarithmic functions, which tend to be a challenging change of pace for math students when they first encounter them. We spent a lot of time going over how the two types of functions interact with each other in a similar fashion to how multiplication and division interact. The main thing with these functions is knowing how to manipulate them, so we practiced different ones from the worksheet, and then I added some curveballs. We covered a lot of the tricks that can be done with these functions algebraically too. The student gained a much better handle on these concepts as the session progressed."
"Today, we reviewed the student's test in preparation for his retest tomorrow. He is struggling with graphing functions and needs to study the basic shapes of the trigonometric functions to complete the graphs."
"The student's class is getting into the first trig section, studying properties and simple identities of trig functions. We did some practice problems, and he knows the concepts but is still learning to keep the details straight."
