Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Test prep session for an upcoming test on Tuesday. We reviewed concepts from the last month including convergence tests, Taylor series, and radius of convergence. Student seemed well prepared for the test at the end of the session."
"Today we covered long division using the standard method. Earlier this week, the student had difficulty remembering the steps and where to place the numbers when solving long division problems but today he solved the problems much quicker. We practiced multiple division problems to help solidify the steps. I also showed him how to list the multiples of the divisor in the problem on the side so that he could easily do the multiplication and division throughout the problem. He felt confident the more problems he solved because he got better each time. He did a very good job and is a hard worker. We did not complete all of the problems so I left the rest for him to practice with mom."
"We covered volumes of revolution and completed many problems from the text book. These covered both the disc and washer method and the student determined the definite integral and input the integral into her graphing calculator to compute the volume. We did have a couple of problems inputting the parentheses properly to get the correct answer. We computed a couple of volumes revolved around the y axis as well as the x axis which requires a different setup for the integral. The student has the second part of her test tomorrow and hopefully she will do well."
"We went over Riemann sums, integration with substitution, and relative rates. She is studying for a test that is tomorrow and I think she is ready. She is a great student and very attentive. Hope to see her again soon."
"Today, the student and I went over a few questions he had regarding limits, reciprocal identities, and logarithmic functions. We then shifted gears and worked on optimization problems. We were able to do a few examples, and he really was starting to get the hang of it! I encouraged him to work through the problems a few more times on his own to make sure the concepts sink in. We also discussed him sitting down and really practicing and reviewing for his quiz and test next week."
"The student and I did another review of series topics in our session in preparation for his upcoming test. Our session revolved around the integral test, the basic comparison test, and the limit comparison test. We did a number of problems involving each test. We spent extra time working on selecting the right functions to use in the comparison tests, which naturally led to using the p-series test and the rules for geometric series convergence."
