Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the session reviewing some material - logarithmic differentiation and implicit differentiation - and covering some new - partial fractions, inflection points and extrema. He is doing well with the material we already covered and quickly caught on with the new. The most time consuming part/chances for errors occur with algebra, so we discussed how to approach that on exams."
"The student has a science final tomorrow and wanted to cover the relevant material. We looked at the pH and pOH scales, along with some chemical equations. The work revolved around balancing equations, then using unit conversions to find the concentrations."
"The student and I completed a series of review assignments assigned for extra credit by her teacher. The online assignments covered properties of trigonometric functions mostly. To assist her, I taught her how to construct a unit circle, use reference angles and sketch triangles based on given trigonometric values"
"We worked on quadratic functions and finding domain and range. Using interval notation in describing the domain and range of functions. We went over FOIL, the rules of divisibility (which I will be bringing to tutoring session tomorrow for the student), as well as steps for factoring. We looking at graphs and describing the domain and range. We simplified binomial and trinomial fractions. We also simplified, added, subtracted, and multiplied square roots."
"We began working on a workbook for seventh graders. We covered negative numbers again, how to add and subtract numbers with either negative or positive signs. We went over how negatives with negatives make positives both in terms of addition and multiplication, whereas in addition negatives with positives make either positive or negative results, while in multiplication negatives with positives always make negative numbers. We went over several problems in the workbook. We also went over imaginary numbers, we went over the basics of exponents, and square roots."
"The student worked through about 30 math problems on the practice math assessment, upper level difficulty. She writes notes, mentally processes facts well, and intuitively sees much, which guides her in approaching the problems. Overall, I'm seeing stronger competence, clearer understanding, and a positive 'go for it' approach. Nice session!"
