We concluded the quarter by reviewing all of the skills the student has put into play. We discussed all of the classes he'd need to potentially focus on for the final week. We spent some time discussing goals as well.

Both students were present today. For English, they're watching the movie 42. In History, no progress. For Spanish, student A's Spanish test went well, and student B is working on ser, estar, and gustar. We used the ch 4 (food) conjugemos for vocab building.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Catherine in Hanover Park, IL
We worked on science and math. In science, the student is learning about the water cycle, but the terms are what confuse her the most. We went over the process of evaporation, and I made her take the time to draw it out with her terms. After Science, we went into long division. She needs to practice her multiple tables so division can be easier. It took her a long time with the first set of problems, but once she realized how to minimize the factors, she understood how to divide by herself. I left her with four problems she had to do without me.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Carly in Hanover Park, IL
Today, the student worked on his ELA homework (stretch it sentences). We spoke about what should be in a sentence and run on sentences. We reviewed for his math test by reviewing a homework sheet he had. We spoke about him slowing down in order to read the whole question, thinking it out and making sure to hear the key words. He did much better on his math this week than last week, and he seemed to understand adding and subtracting fractions, as well as reducing, much better. We went over the corrections to his science test. I saw his report card at the beginning of the session as well as his spelling test. He received a 30 out of 30 on his spelling that we worked on last week. He received a 75 on his science we worked on last time, and today's corrections will improve his grade up to an 80.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Carol in Hanover Park, IL
I met with the student for the first session and asked questions regarding his goals and the troubles he is having. He commented that he struggles with reading comprehension and often struggles to remember what he read. We then worked on a poem as an icebreaker, and he really appeared to enjoy the activity. Then, we talked about reading strategies--slowing down, stopping at each paragraph and thinking about one thing he remembered from the passage, asking questions on vocabulary he doesn't understand, and focusing on the information he is reading. Then, we worked on a tutorial that practiced these skills. We then worked on a passage and applied these skills and answered comprehension questions. He seemed to be more confident in answering the questions. He is a very sweet young man and is eager to learn and willing to work hard. I am excited to work with him.
