"The student and I started off by going over some Math passages. She completed a Math practice section from the SAT prep book - she did very well and missed only a few questions. Those that she missed were due to minor errors - either failing to read the questions correctly and answering the wrong part or something similar. I encouraged her to circle or underline the question to try to aid in this. She did one more fill in the blank section and did similarly well. She then completed 1 CR section. She did very well in this as well, missing only 3 questions. The questions she missed related to vocab for 2 - one she should have gotten as it was one of our high yield vocab words, so we went over that. The second was a word we had not encountered before. Finally, we went over vocab, which she did well on. For next time, she will do Math and Critical Reading sections on her own, and we will go over these. We will do a Writing passage as well to make sure she doesn't forget these skills. We will meet next Wednesday at 6pm."
"I met with the student this afternoon to continue our work with the SAT. We practiced the critical reading passages and essay section."
"The student continued on an essay assignment, focusing in on concise writing skills, and on forming the long arc of the essay. She needs to take her generally strong skills for building evidence and streamline them into a more direct and unified whole. This will highlight some of her more personal and unique writing touches, which are generally effective. We also began working through the Seven Deadly Errors in Correcting Sentences sections."
