"The student took a practice test with a tutoring/testing center a week or two ago, and he now has the results. We worked from the end of the test backwards, since his score for the first section was the strongest, with declining numbers as the test went on. We looked at process of elimination techniques, shortcuts, and arithmetic errors that resulted from rushing or not writing down his work. I also tested him on some commonly misspelled words. We did a few rounds of quizzing. With repetition, his spelling improved, but he really needs days in a row with this - consistency over time. I gave him some books of homework and said he should practice writing his spelling words down a few times a day over the next week. Overall, a productive session."
"In this session we first went over vocab and reading. The student made a tremendous leap in vocabulary. We are still working on reading for depth and detail and he will continue to work on that without me. I am going to send him some passages with questions attached so we can work on reading in more of a test setting. I gave him a 5 minute break then we began to work on math. He improved tremendously on percentages! He also had a strong base in geometry with triangles. We will continue to work on volume, surface area, and areas of other shapes. We also need to continue to work on functions as he does not have a great depth of knowledge on them."
"Today the student and I worked on series problems, word problems and logic in the quantitative skills section. We also worked on comma usage and spelling in the language skills section. I recommended additional online resources that the student could use on her own."
