Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had another good day today! He spent some time retaking the Unit 5 study material from chemistry. His job between tonight and our next meeting is to do all the questions in Unit 5 and Unit 6. I also created a study plan for him for math, targeting specific areas that I know are stronger and ones that he can (re-)learn/practice quickly. He remembered most of the unit circle work we did. Next session we'll work on this more and build in new topics. A positive bit of news was that he turned in his English work and brought his grade up even higher than I anticipated!"
"We covered exponential functions and word problem solving in Algebra 2. He struggled to apply the concepts to homework problems, so we worked on that together. We also went over some chemistry concepts; specifically, Bohr's model and Rutherford's model. The student was determined to learn and understand the theories."
"Great session with the student today! He's spent the week reviewing test material, so he's in great shape for his final. We continued the big review packet-he liked learning shortcuts for approximating and really grasped the various volume problems we did. He knows he needs more practice before the test, looking out for common mistakes. He's got a game plan to continue reviewing, and we're confident he'll do well. We'll be in touch in the fall for the occasional check-in and brush up as needed. Have a great summer!"
"We went over triangle proportionalities and using similar triangles to determine the height of something. We got through a review of two packets today. I told him to finish the problems in Section 17.3 by the time we meet tomorrow. He also still needs a ruler and protractor to finish his homework from Chapter 16. We will meet again tomorrow and will finish reviewing more packets."
"The student and I worked on converting mixed numbers into improper fractions and then multiplying those numbers. We looked at the proper pattern for doing problems like this. She needs a little more practice with these processes, which we will work on next session."
"Today, the student and I went over different techniques to do long division. We started with a game that allowed him to divide single-digit numbers together in order to introduce the topic. We then went over two different strategies for dividing larger numbers into each other. I told him that either method for long division was fine. He should use the one that works best for him."
