Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I reviewed her homework from her math teacher. We also got a chance to review her science homework."
"The student completed practice problems in geometry and order-of-operations. I taught him the concept of the Pythagorean Theorem."
"Today's tutorial was focused on making connections between the student's school work and skills he will need on the SAT. We began by brainstorming ideas and writing sentence-long responses to prompts his teacher gave him. These were questions that an admission counselor might ask, so they were a great way to get him thinking about the types of subjects and messages he wants to convey when he speaks with private school admission counselors in the near future. He provided lots of ideas for consideration that we edited for clarity and grammar. Each time we brainstormed ideas and possible structures for a response, he was given five minutes to write the sentence response. He did an excellent job of this and required very little tweaking of answers. After this, we implemented the same writing skills to answer questions about a reading passage. The student demonstrated fantastic critical reading skills by annotating the passage before our session and reiterating the passages key messages to me. From here, we will work on him being able to do this under the time constraints the test will require."
