Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on Completing the Square and the Quadratic Formula. The student did a nice job with some advanced material."
"The topics we went over were the area of a circle and word problems for the area of a circle. We went over a few problems regarding these topics and discussed the importance of communicating with his teacher even after the fact to make sure that the teacher is doing all he can to help the student fully prepare for all exams and quizzes. We went over line and angle relationships. This dealt with parallel line relationships, vertical angles, complementary angles, and supplementary angles. The student made note cards and sketches for each definition to help him become more familiar with the relationships. For practice, we played flash card games with his note cards where I would say a term and he would write the definition and draw the corresponding figures that go with the definition. We also did a few practice problems to help him apply the definition he learned. The student did very well."
"Conversion between standard form and slope-intercept form of linear equations, basic algebra operations, graphing, and modeling."
"We went over test 1 which was assigned by her teacher as HW. The example text covered the vast majority of what we encountered in our previous sessions. The student did a great job, especially with graphs and finding roots of solutions. One area that needs further development is creating exponential equations which I plan to cover in the next session."
"The student and I covered factoring, factoring by grouping, and factoring special cases. We didn't do a great deal of practice problems, so I left many worksheets behind. Hopefully that practice will help him reinforce some of the things we discussed during the session."
"The student and I started a review packet for the state exam that he received from school. He still struggles with comprehension, but he seemed to be showing some improvement. After our session concluded I recommended that he do extra practice problems during the week or weekend to improve his comprehension and speed with problems."
