Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by reviewing a few major verb conjugations and then reviewed vocabulary that the student has been memorizing. We focused on a set of verbal phrases, including 'hace..que..,' 'acabar de,' and various phrases using 'tener.' I asked him to continue working with new vocabulary by completing exercises in the textbook we are using."
"The student and I went over the HW. We reviewed indirect object pronouns and the way they can be attached to infinitive verbs of verbs in present progressive. Then we saw them in preterite and imperfect. We worked with different verbs related to health, which is the theme the student is currently learning in school. I modeled and then she did it on her own. Finally, I gave her a worksheet for body parts. It showed the words in English and in Latin. Then she had to pick from a word bank to fill in the blanks in Spanish. She saw how close Spanish is from Latin and was able to complete."
"The student was introduced to the new grammar concept, direct object pronouns. I gave her a mini lesson in sentence mapping and had her identify subject, verb, direct object, and indirect object. Once she had the basic grammar concept, I had her turn direct objects into direct object pronouns place them in sentences. I taught her basic rules and placement of DOPs and IDOPs. We then reviewed her homework, which was practicing with DOPs to solidify her understanding. Though she often forgot to put the verb in the sentences, she picked the correct DOP and placed it perfectly within the structure of the sentence. Her overall grasp of the concept improved greatly over the session. We then finished the session translating a soap opera summary from Spanish and English."
