Tutoring review by Matthew in Guilderland Center, NY
Today the student and I reviewed his pre-calculus homework as well as his Spanish and biology coursework. This semester, we are going to take a different approach to tutoring sessions in the hopes of maximizing our sessions. Today went very well and I think that this new style is going to work better for the student.

Tutoring review by Tyler in Guilderland Center, NY
The student completed her Algebra 2 homework packet, going over problems specifically geared towards geometry. After some review, she was able to successfully use right triangle trigonometry to determine various sides/ angles of a triangle. She also independently used geometric principles of parallel lines to find missing angles successfully. The session concluded with a review of factoring, where we looked at other polynomials that required different factoring techniques (i.e.: factoring out a greatest common factor).

Tutoring review by Lisa in Guilderland Center, NY
The student worked on her Part A test, parts 1 & 2 out of 3. She did well on these sections, though she is definitely more confident in material in Part B. She is very anxious to be finished with the course. There is still more work to be done, so I asked her to complete the End of Semester assessment and Part B review before we meet next.

Tutoring review by Dr. Melissa in Guilderland Center, NY
The student was quizzed on events and people in American History since the exam will be tomorrow. He has a keen grasp of the social and political outcomes. We also outlined a paper for the class (organization skills, coherence, thesis construction, etc.). He has a great attitude. I applied Paulo Freire's "true dialogue" for his learning so that ideas can be unpacked more fully with synthesis.

Tutoring review by Brian in Guilderland Center, NY
The student had a packet on polynomials. We did practice problems on finding roots from graphs and by factoring and using synthetic division. He initially made some errors in synthetic division, but has a good sense of the procedure and the nature of roots. We also got ahead by discussing the sum and product rules for quadratic roots. We also reviewed completing the square and deriving the solution to a quadratic formula using generic coefficient variables a, b, and c. He has a tendency to make algebraic errors but seems to understand the material overall.

Tutoring review by Mitchell in Guilderland Center, NY
The student and I worked through more optimization problems where intensive algebra was required. She was able to solve a few problems with simpler algebra steps, but when we moved on to more difficult ones she would stumble even though she had the correct approach. We then decided to move on and do a quick walk-through review of all the topics that would be on the exam. She finished the session optimistic, knowing that she needed a break, some sleep, and a fresh start in the morning before her exam tomorrow.
