Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we discussed irregular verbs that have spelling changes in the preterit verb form (simple past) utilizing exercises from the student's textbook. We also went over vocabulary related to foods utilizing a restaurant conversational practice. He me he has a quiz tomorrow so next week I will be able to check his progress."
"Today in our first session, we focused on the following vocabulary words: caliente, estrella, temperatura, rojo, blanco, azul, y amarillo. I had the student use flashcards to write the English translation of the word, a picture to symbolize the word, and a Spanish sentence with the word. After we did this with four of the words, I read a few pages from a book and had him pay attention to how many times it is used in the story. This helped in hearing the words used in context as well as paying attention to the story. We then moved on to pretending we were a star and interviewing a star. The vocabulary words were used and the student was successful in using the vocabulary words in his own sentences. Today's session was focused on vocabulary and with practice he did well! As homework, I had him write a story of a star using the vocabulary words."
"Today, the student needed help studying for a Chapter 6 vocab and grammar test. She did a review homework assignment regarding the chapter on her class' online homework page. She seemed to get the hang of indirect object pronouns and preterite verb conjugations, but needed help with demonstrative pronouns (more specifically, matching plurality and gender with the noun of interest). She has a bit of trouble translating words from Spanish to English; this impedes her comprehension of certain questions being asked of her. In the same way, it is important that she not forget the vocabulary she has learned in the past either. We will work on these things in future sessions."
