Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused primarily on reviewing the Quantitative section of the test. For the most part, the student understands how to go about the math problems or can easily figure it out, but we need to work on building her confidence in doing these problems. We spent some time on Reading Comprehension."
"The student and I went for an extended session today. We covered a lot of ground, beginning with the reading material we had been working on the session before and moving on to math material in the second half. For the readings, we reinforced the strategies we had established in the last two sessions. For the math, we identified areas for improvement, and spent considerable time improving his work with decimals and percents. His speed is good. He was a trooper throughout and maintained concentration like a champ."
"Today's session was shortened. We learned how to divide decimals, and, after practice, they became really good at it. They will need to practice to remember how to do it."
"We went over some more vocabulary. Nearly all the words are new to him, so he does have a ways to go for this part of the exam. He seems to know more math than vocab, so we didn't spend as much time on that section of the exam. I did show him how to find the area of squares."
"The student's rewrite for her essay was much stronger than her first draft. She did a good job incorporating her character into the essay. We focused on synonyms and math strategies. We also went over some reading comprehension exercises. She is improving with each session."
"The student and I went through several reading comprehension prompts, timed identically to the test (6 Qs, 6 mins, etc.). She finished all of the prompts. Next, I had her do a timed math section, a total of 25 miscellaneous multiple choice questions. We then reviewed the basics of averages, and finally, we went through the last of her vocabulary flashcards that she had prepared since the last session."
"Reading comprehension, writing and math problem solving in preparation for the upcoming SSAT exam on Saturday."
"Reading test strategies, analogy strategies, synonym guessing strategies, math questions which were unclear."
"Today was a confidence and skill sharpening session. We continued to fine tune his skills and build his confidence. We went through upper level verbal and math sections to give him a challenge."
"The student and I went over general test taking skills and discussed any questions he had on the night before he would take the exam."
"We worked on pacing during the reading section, review of math, and being able to explain why he chose the answers he selected. He has improved his reading percentile."
"We talked about general test taking tips and discussed how the student felt about her first test. I think her biggest issue will be practice on the test."
