"The first session of the Mandarin lesson was about learning self-introduction, numbers 0-10, and how to say basic family members. The students paid attention and picked up the self-introduction language and numbers 0-10 fast. Because of his prior knowledge, Student 1 could learn the large numbers faster. So did Student 2. She learned very actively, liked to challenge herself with numbers, and also helped her younger sister Student 3. Student 1 and 2 are now able to tell telephone numbers in Chinese and can interpret the numbers steadily. Student 3, though she needed time to count the numbers, learned the numbers step by step and also came to know how to introduce herself in the target language. All of them can say parents in Mandarin, and we touched the siblings vocabulary a little as well at the end of the session."
"We reviewed time words, double adjective intensifiers, Because-Therefore sentence construction, and vocabulary."
"I reviewed animals with the student, then I taught him a new category, food, and a little bit of electronic stuff. He would tell me what he is interested in learning, and then I would teach him stuff in that specific category. He catches on really quickly. I'm going to start reviewing our old lessons before learning new lessons. I really want him to know all the words and vocab without using the notes."
"Today we started with lesson 7-a birthday party. We listened to a poem and the student was able to read it and record it. We then covered the workbook for lesson seven, practicing sentence structure."
