Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered two math sections today. The student has some trouble fully noticing all of the details of the questions, so I have her tell me the details of each question she misses. She also has trouble with function problems. We will continue to address this issue in future sessions."
"First we went over the student's homework and we made sure he understood what to do during content review and practice questions. Then we did practice critical reading questions."
"The student had completed one entire practice test for this session sans essay. With regards to math, we went over the questions he missed - for the most part, these were either topics we had not gone over yet or were minor mistakes. He appeared to have some difficulty with the 'find the shaded area' problems, so we went over those as well as the concept of "similar" triangles. We discussed average problem charts, which I think he grasped well by the end of our practice problems. We will review probability at our next session. He did EXCELLENTLY in the critical reading section - this had been a problem area in the past, but he felt that the passages in this test were easier than those that he had completed previously. We will continue to practicing this to ensure that he maintains his performance on test day. He did continue to miss some of the vocab questions - I emphasized that he would most likely not know the definition of every word he encountered on test day, so he should focus on being comfortable in crossing things off as well. Lastly, the errors he made in the writing section involved minor mistakes regarding verb tense, etc., so I encouraged him to read those carefully. We spent the last hour of our session going over the answer key from the SAT test he took in January- the errors he made were similar to those we discussed with the practice information. We went over the essay he completed for that exam; he did a great job with his choice of supporting examples, but his thesis statement was a tad too broad. We went over tips on how to improve his score. Finally, I quizzed him on vocab, which he knew very well."
