Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I continued to review the different rivers including: Mississippi, Ohio, Colorado, Rio Grande & Hudson with the student for the test. I gave her a quiz on them, but she missed quite a few. With that I will go over them once more before the test on Friday. I also reviewed the fraction problems she missed on her last test and quizzed her on them, including the current chapter on perimeter and areas of the shapes. She completed the assignment packet by reading "sisters after school" and filling in the correct answers for the questions. She also had to compare what she does similar to either or both of the sisters in the reading. We also completed the math portion of the packet."
"Student A has a quiz on the western states and their capitals. He watched several videos to help him memorize them and then I gave him a quiz of all the states and then of all the capitals. Student L showed me her PowerPoint presentation for a group project and we changed a few of the wordings on the slides to make them more clear. We also discussed what she would say on each slide to help get her point across effectively. She took a spelling test and we began working on unit 4 of the spelling workbook. We finished up a worksheet on helping verbs and wrote several sentences to solidify the concepts. Student A finished up his session by going over subject pronouns."
"The student has been doing really well in her sessions. She is performing on grade level on the majority of the math standards for the 4th grade. We spent this session reviewing some math concepts from her homework as well as doing an assessment together to determine which standards from the 4th grade she still needs to master. After we address these few concepts, we can move on to 5th grade math to prep her for next school year."
"The student and I went over her math homework. She is learning angles. At first she said she had no idea how to do the problems, but she got it pretty quickly. I reviewed 360 degrees in a circle, 180 straight line, and right angles, and she was fine. The problems gave an angle or number of slices of a pizza, and you had to solve for angle/slices by dividing 360 degrees by the given number. She didn't have any big issues. We also reviewed on her spelling words. Next time I'd like to continue with doing slightly more difficult fraction/decimal problems than what she had for homework and spend more time on her writing."
"The student and I continued her independent reading assignment today and discussed scenery, imagery, and characters. We worked on spelling and on slowing down while reading and writing. We also reviewed her grammar homework."
"Today the student did a review of past tense endings, as well as all spelling words. We then did a poetry close reading, followed by multiple choice and short answer questions and a short story close reading with short answer questions. We tried to focus on using details from the passage."
