"I created a list of words student did not read on previous list to begin a set of flashcards. I used words with similar spellings to build flashcards. The student then created sentence using a game. Then, I used pre-selected pictures and scrambled words for student to use and moved around to create a sentence that makes sense. The student was challenged to create 3 sentences on his own. I used a book from a previous visit to practice reading."
"I had the student read "Summer Camping." She read at 104 WCPM. I will give her a higher level passage next session. I administered the Names Test Level 2 Form A (consonant blends and digraphs, short vowels, vowel digraphs and diphthongs, multi-syllabic words). She showed no gaps. For phonics, I taught her the rules for the 2 sounds of c and g. I taught her how to divide multi-syllabic words. We worked on dictionary skills including guide words, pronunciation key, parts of speech, and determining the correct meaning based upon how a word is used in a sentence."
"For our first session, the student and I first introduced ourselves and went over his expectations for our upcoming tutoring sessions. Then, I diagnosed his reading comprehension ability by having him read a selected passage and answer SAT reading questions regarding the passage. We finished by assigning homework and getting started on the reading for the upcoming week, The Rascal by Sterling North. The student was friendly but shy, but should open up as we grow more comfortable with each other. He is a bright kid and I'm confident that we can get to where he wants to be by the end of the summer."
"We worked on CVC blends, writing letters, and spelling three letter words. We read three books from the Flip-a-Word Series. I read a Lego story to him, and he also did a matching activity with simple sentences. The student is gaining confidence and is working really hard. He's a great student!"
"We went over an evaluation to determine what best meets the student's needs. Moving forward we will be working to help his studying habits and reading abilities"
"In our guided reading lesson, we focused on fluency and using all the strategies he has been taught to increase his reading ability. He took a comprehension quiz at the end of the book he just finished and was able to answer all the questions by either memory or going back into the text and finding the answer on his own. We made a goal for him to have read 1 week per week for 10 weeks. He is excited for his goal and expressed interest in reading chapter books after he completes his goal. We played three rounds of word games to help develop his ability to read and write one syllable words. His attitude is positive and he is up to the challenge of reading one book a week and writing 6 sentences about the book."
