Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I went over the homework I left for the student - which consisted of multiplying and dividing mixed numbers/fractions -- and I circled the errors for her to correct. Upon re-correcting her work, I noticed a pattern starting to form that I wanted to address right away: I made it a point to clarify that if she chooses to change the division to multiplication and take the reciprocal, then she must multiply straight across and not cross-multiply; or she could just cross multiply - one or the other, not both. I then ran her through some geometry, having her find first the perimeter and then the area of a rectangle. I gave her a few problems on each calculation."
"Today we covered fractions. The student has a good understanding of what equivalent fractions are, and can convert thirds into twelfths or thirty-sixth's etc. So we spent a good deal of the lesson going over times tables, with the end in mind that he memorize them."
"We looked over his completed homework and corrected a couple of problems. We then completed problem solving in the book that I provided. We ended the session by practicing subtraction with regrouping."
"The student and I reviewed her latest test on geometry and went over all of her mistakes. Then we switched to her new unit on tables and graphs. Her mother expressed interest in practicing test taking skills with the student, and I agreed to prepare materials for our next session for this purpose."
"The student is making solid progress. He definitely understands the current material, and we were able to fix some mistakes on his past exam. We will continue to work on exam taking strategies. Overall, I am confident we will be able to raise he grade to where it needs to be."
"We went over cross multiplication of rational equations. This led to implying the same concept to triangle segmentation. We did lots of practice and he learned new ways to solve the same problems. We also went over Pythagorean theorem which was relatively easy for him. The student is the best student I have worked with so far. He is a very bright young man. He is way ahead of most of his peers. Most fascinating thing is that he picks up patterns very easily and pays attention to detail. He knows when he makes mistakes and never hesitates to correct himself."
