Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student worked on her assigned homework regarding the binomial theorem and Pascal's triangle. We did not use a calculator in our session today because I wanted to review with her the importance of mental math. She and I discussed some 'tricks' to different mental math portions of her homework and she did a fantastic job. She finished her worksheet and then I did a brief overview of her next topic, vertexes of parabolas. She is doing a fantastic job and really enjoying our sessions. She is always a delight to teach and is starting to, dare I say it, like math!"
"In today's session, we went over practice problems for the student's makeup physics exam tomorrow. The topics we focused on were sound, harmonics, and fundamental frequencies. He does a good job with the math, but he does need to memorize the formulas tonight because he will not get a formula sheet on the exam."
"We went over derivatives using power rule. The student tried deriving both parts, but I reminded him how to use product rule; he remembered afterwards and throughout our session. We went over rewriting a quotient to a product in order to use product rule, and other methods to simplify a function before deriving. He is open to different methods and by understanding alternative ways, it shows his problem-solving abilities."
"The student and I went over his chapter 5 review packet. This included Pythagorean identities, generic trig identities, simplifying expressions involving trig functions, and the sum and difference properties for sine and cosine. He did great! He picked up on new concepts very quickly and was able to work out problems on his own at a really good speed. We will finish the second portion of this packet on Sunday when we meet again."
"Today we went over the relationships between areas of shapes and given functions of a curve touching one point on the shape. He seems to recall much about area, circumference, and perimeter. I feel he will do well with this section."
"The student and I reviewed for her upcoming tests covering graphing polynomials, identifying polynomial equations, recognizing polynomial trends, and application problems. Her class has been pretty mellow up to this point, and she hasn't needed a whole lot of help. We covered some key points, and I'm very confident she will do well on her exam tomorrow!"
