Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student reviewed chapter 3 last night, so he completed problems from each section from the book during the session to quiz him on the material. He did well, and we went over the problems that he had some difficulty with. We then moved on to chapter 4 and continued our review. We covered all of the theorems related to proving congruence of triangles. Tonight, he is going to review this material once more and I will quiz him on it tomorrow. He also said that he wants to cover some more ACT problems, so we will try to do that in tomorrow's session if time permits."
"We started the chapter on circles. We got through three sections which included basic terms, tangents, central angles, and arcs. The student caught on quickly. I left him with practice problems from each section and had him do the next section on his own."
"Today we hit angles and triangles hard. This is very visual in nature, but I was able to find an algebraic pattern (the vertex is always in the middle!) that seems to help. We will review this and triangles next time. I gave the student a practice problem with multiple parts for him to work on prior to our next session."
"We went over more advanced trigonometry concepts this time. The student is beginning to grasp trigonometry, but is not as quick at it as he was with previous areas. He's doing well for having never learned trigonometry before, though. Specifically, we covered the law of sines and the law of cosines in this session, and he seemed to understand how to apply both theorems."
"I covered the introduction to geometry beginning with space, points, and line today. I introduced the student to Theorems and Postulates and we spoke about what she could expect for the upcoming school year. The student did not appear to be struggling with any of the material. She seemed to grasp the concepts we spoke about very well. I left her with the notes and examples that we worked on, in case she wanted to review anything. I informed her that she could search the internet for any further explanation if needed. No concerns."
"Today's session with the student went very well. We worked out of her practice workbook and practiced applying algebra to solve triangles and angles. She is doing well, so no extra practice problems for this session."
"Today we went over point, line, and plane problems. He has some issues at first with plane problems. We focused mostly on those problems. We did extra problems from the book and I made up some for him. He started to catch on."
"Today the student and I continued with the online assessment. Similar to the last session, it was a review of the math he had done before along with a little bit of Geometry. His knowledge on the material seems to be very great. My plans for the next session are to finish the assessment and introduce additional problems pertaining to Geometry."
"We went over chapter 1 the first day including postulates and basics -- rays, degrees, lines, and line segments. The second day we went over some proofs. We went over how to start a proof, what a proof is, and the parts to a good proof. We went over if then statements and off and only if statements."
"We went over a few formulas for arc length and chords. We went over the steps needed for most of the problems and the formal method to solve. He seems pretty knowledgeable but just needs a little more formal direction in the subject."
"The student completed homework problems that involved factoring quadratic expressions with the use of two different methods. She has an assessment on Tuesday."
"Completed the student's math homework which was just a review of algebraic concepts. Began going over textbook sections that will be covered on his first quiz (inductive reasoning)."
