Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I continued to work with the student on solubility problems and further explained the difference between solubility product and solubility. We then worked on a new chapter doing preliminary problems on radioactive decay. She picked up this topic very quickly and I was pleased with her progression."
"The student performed well on the current subject, balancing chemical reaction equations. We discussed previous test and exam subjects and concluded that for the next session he would print out and bring in a practice test for an earlier exam."
"We talked about Coulomb force, electroscopes, and electric field. We did several problems involving these concepts. The student did extremely well on his past two quizzes, and he should also do well on his quiz tomorrow."
"The student and I focused on reading and writing today. I had her read aloud from a reading book and then write a paragraph describing one of the settings from the story. Even though the book was clearly too high of a level for her at the present time (but would be great as a challenge or goal book), she persevered and sounded out the words faithfully. In her paragraph, we looked at misspelled words, and I introduced the stair steps method (write the word once, then write the first letter on the first line, the first two letters on the second line, and so on). I think that it will prove to be very helpful to her. She was able to spell several of the words correctly after we'd used the method on them. Super job!!"
"The student and I worked on some new spelling words and practiced his older spelling words. We worked on a few exercises, and he did well. He understood the work and discovered a few new words."
"We reviewed the student's math homework, which covered subtraction with 3 digit numbers, two step math problems, using charts, and strips. She knows how to add and subtract well. The techniques used to help the students understand the process, such as estimating and adding by breaking the numbers down to their placements (100's, 10's, and 1's) confused her a little. We discussed these things and worked like problems, and she is getting better."
